The sound “ART” may ring a lot of thoughts in one’s mind…..painting, photography, music, dance, cooking…list may go on with a lot more of such words. The power of art is well proven to be healing and said to have calming effects on the mind.
My tryst with painting started during the days of architecture, apart from using it in our works and submissions, I and my friend enjoyed painting the walls of our college with art forms best known to us in our best expression. The joy of expression in colours and forms, I find absolutely fascinating and therapeutic.
In my role of a busy professional and mundane work of running an organisation over took my creative side very quickly. Just as I was getting sucked deep into it, it occurred to me one day that I wanted my staff and colleagues to experience the joy of painting with colours. When I shared this with them it was a mixed response, some were not sure they could do anything with brushes and paint as they had not used them at all but largely they were all willing to try out.
As they say where there is a will there is a way… I had this good friends duo on of whom is an artist took up this challenge of engaging 30 people of my office in painting 2 blank walls. The process was fun, engaging and there was perfect team bonding. The result was absolutely fabulous, we had two beautifully painted walls which each of them could call their own. The sense of belongingness to the space was automatically created. That's the power of art... @Ranjini Vikram thanks for making this happen!!!
A Hundertwasser inspired wall…..
What was the size of your office @vidya veeresh ? I like the upside down painting very much....how does it feel to work in a place so vibrantly coloured? I would love to do something like this for my home office but am concerned so much color would be distracting.
@vidya veeresh what you have done is really off beat. Such workplace fun programs go a long way in bonding .Everyone feels oh i have done something different. In fact i was thinking if i could make My neighbourhood kids who play in front of my house and sit on my compound all the time they are chatting or playing, to paint that very wall next time i get my house painted.! That would be fun for them and me.
Do come up with more such innovative ideas and let us know. May be others too have done things like this please let us know .
What a neat idea of combining your passion for art and painting and making it a team activity that was engaging and fun for your team! And now that gives everyone in the workplace a sense of ownership towards the space they work in everyday!
@vidya veeresh , what you have done here is combine your passion for art, the therapeutic feeling of colors with team building! Organizations are constantly coming up with ways to engage more with staff and teams in ways that everyone finds interesting. Most management-oriented games are boring and does not hold people's interest- even corporate retreats and bootcamps are losing their charm, as everything is becoming cliched and notional....
This is an excellent hands-on way to engage a team and kudos to you for making this work with such a large team. The results look amazing! Friedensreich Hundertwasser was a true visionary and his use of forms and color is quite something!
Maybe @Ranjini Vikram can share more insight into this art form and how to adapt this to a more modern office setting and smaller spaces....
